*Students with F-1 status should review this page carefully.*
Course registration does not equal work authorization. After you have been registered for MGMT 391 you must still request approval for Curricular Practical Training (CPT) authorization through ISSS.
Please review the F-1 CPT information on the ISSS website, including eligibility requirements.
CPT is authorization to work for a specific employer; therefore, you must have an actual offer of employment before you can apply for CPT. Your internship offer letter should include the following:
- Company name
- Full address of worksite
- Job title
- Job duties
- Dates of employment
- Number of work hours per week
Once you are registered for MGMT 391, you may submit a “CPT Request” through the ISSS iPenn system. An email will automatically be sent to the Wharton Undergraduate Division and an advisor will approve the request based on your academic eligibility and enrollment in MGMT 391. Then, ISSS will review the request, issue a new I-20 with your CPT authorization if you meet the requirements, and email you with further instructions.
IMPORTANT - You must obtain your CPT I-20 before you begin working. To maintain your legal F-1 status, you may not begin your employment (including orientation or training) until the start date authorized on your CPT I-20. You may only work during the dates authorized and your end date cannot be later than August 31, 2021.
For any changes to your approved CPT I-20, contact your ISSS advisor in advance to obtain authorization and a new CPT I-20.
With your CPT I-20, you may apply for a social security number up to 30 days before the listed start date of your internship.
