Resident Team Advisors (RTAs) are primarily Penn undergraduates, however other students may also apply. As RTAs, rising sophomores, juniors, or seniors will work closely with program staff to run the day-to-day operations of the pre-college programs. RTAs assist with all aspects of the programs, including educational, residential, and social experiences. Depending on the program, RTAs may report to a head RTA or a program staff member.
RTAs fulfill the following responsibilities:
- Assist participants with classroom-based team activities and assignments and provide coaching as necessary
- Accompany participants on educational field trips, site visits, and cultural/social outings
- Organize and assist with recreational and social activities
- Live with participants on the Penn campus and serve as resident advisors
Depending on the program, RTAs work for three to five weeks, which includes time for RTA orientation and assistance with program move-out. Please check your availability against the program schedules: LEAD Program at Wharton (June 28 – July 17) and SMASH Academy at Wharton (June 27-August 1). While the programs are running, RTAs are on duty 24 hours a day. RTAs should have no other commitments during the program period, including summer session classes. The only exception to this rule is for students who are participating in a part-time summer research program (e.g., SPUR).
RTAs receive a competitive wage as well as free room and board during the program.
