W3i: Wharton Integrative Industry Immersion

Through a portfolio of W3i offerings, students have opportunities to explore industries and apply their academic knowledge in immersive, real-world experiences. Students are encouraged to think critically about the problems they want to solve, explore how business intersects with society, connect classroom learning to industry insight,  and gain confidence to lead with clarity and conviction.

Intended for students early in their undergraduate journey, W3i programs lay the foundation for purposeful, informed career development that extends far beyond a single job offer.

Courses

Led by world-class faculty of the Wharton School, these 0.5 CU courses are offered in the spring semester. W3i courses immerse students in an industry or business culture through dynamic engagements with leading firms, universities, and industry experts.

W3i: International Courses

W3i: International courses are short-term business courses featuring interactive business-site visits, lectures at partner schools, cultural excursions, and networking opportunities with alumni and other business leaders from the destination countries.

In addition to learning about another country’s business environment and culture, students earn 0.5 CU that can be used towards business-breadth or elective credits.

W3i: International courses are designed to:

  • Provide an understanding of a region’s business and cultural environment
  • Help students gain a working knowledge of local business practices through lectures at partner schools and direct interaction with business managers
  • Explore the value of different business models
  • Promote intercultural awareness and communication
  • Help prepare students for careers in the global economy

W3i: Domestic Courses

W3i: Domestic courses connect undergraduate students with leading firms across the United States to explore industries, engage directly with alumni and other professionals, and gain insight into current and developing business challenges and practices.

Course participants will:

  • Challenge assumptions about industries, business functions, and talent pipelines;
  • Learn how company values, strategy, and culture shape organizational success;
  • Apply their knowledge in immersive, hands-on projects; and
  • Refine professional interests, skills, and aspirations.

In addition, students will earn 0.5 course units that can be used towards business-breadth or elective credits.

Projects

W3i Projects help students explore industries and challenge them with the question: “What problems can your Wharton education help you solve in the world?

These experiences connect students with leading firms across the United States, where they will engage directly with alumni and other professionals and gain insight into current and developing business challenges and practices. Students will test their assumptions in real-world settings and boldly pursue solutions through exploration and inquiry.
