Who can participate in STEP?
STEP is by invitation, and select incoming freshmen are invited to apply to the program. The program is intended for Wharton students who are from historically underrepresented groups.
Can I arrive a day early for STEP?
Campus housing will not be available to students who arrive a day early. If you would like to come to Philadelphia before the program begins, there are many hotels near campus that may be able to accommodate your stay. You can learn more about area hotels and discount rates here.
I will be coming to Philadelphia by myself, will that be an issue?
This is not a problem. Please let us know about your travel plans ahead of time, and we will do our best to accommodate your arrival and get you help with moving your things.
When can I move in to my College House?
You must move into your College House between 8:00am and 6:00pm on Sunday, August 19. Note that there will be a mandatory STEP welcome (and ground rules) meeting on August 19 at 6:30pm.
Where do I go when I get to campus?
All students must arrive on Sunday, August 19 (move in will be between 8:00am and 6:00pm). When you get to campus, you should go to your assigned College House (where you will be living the rest of the academic year) and check in at the front desk. The staff will help get you set up for moving in. You will not be the only person in the building; all College Houses are staffed by College House deans and residential and graduate assistants.
Do I have to participate in all programming?
Full attendance and participation is mandatory. Also, note that the program does not include any strenuous activity.
Will I have free time that I can spend with my family or friends?
STEP is exclusively for you, and there will not be a lot of free time during the program.
Are there any fees for the program?
There is no charge to participate in STEP; however, you will be responsible for getting yourself to campus before the start of the program. Housing and all meals and activities are included at no cost.
