WRAP 2024: Xavier Hill W’26

During the summer of 2024, I had the privilege of experiencing the Wharton’s World Research Assistantship Program for the second time. Having experienced the benefits of the Wharton-INSEAD alliance during the summer of 2023, and already established a network at the school from my previous summer of work there, I chose INSEAD as the destination for my research efforts through the WRAP program for a second time. After consulting with Professor Erica Boothby, my Negotiations professor at Wharton, I decided to pursue a research opportunity in the Organizational Behavior department at INSEAD, under Professor Spencer Harrison.

Under Professor Harrison, I collaborated with PhD candidate Preeti Varma on an ongoing study examining trends in Organizational Behavior literature. I was responsible for coding and analyzing trends across approximately 800 research papers spanning over 20 years from six major Organizational Behavior journals. By analyzing trends in research rigor and data collection methods across journals, I aimed to assess the evolution of research practices and validate hypotheses about increasing research rigor. My work will help guide future research priorities for Professor Harrison and his colleagues. This work provided me with deep, practical exposure to computer science, artificial Intelligence, data modeling, and data visualization.

Having spent a second consecutive summer working at INSEAD and coincidentally living on the same street, I had the hindsight to optimize and professionalize my life in ways that were not possible during my first experience working in Paris. This allowed me to experiment with cooking, reading, exploring, and pursuing side ventures.

I attended and helped organize the INSEAD Business School for Climate Leadership Summit, where I addressed an audience including the Deans of three major European Business Schools, sharing my thoughts on the future of Business Education. In addition, I attended the annual INSEAD Summer Black Tie Ball, and met students from around the world, including other Wharton students also involved with the WRAP program.

Over the summer, I continued my swimming pursuits, competing in multiple events in the French Swimming Olympic Team Trials and National Championships, at which I was a finalist.

In addition to my academic and athletic pursuits, I continued my passion for piano by performing multiple street concerts in front of the Notre-Dame Cathedral with the French group LaSceneFR. I also had the opportunity to play alongside pianist and showman Pierre-Yves Plat at the Sunset-Sunside Jazz club in Paris.

Living alone in another country is an extremely enriching experience, filled with the highs and the lows that make life so interesting and rewarding.  Working at INSEAD and pursuing my passions in Paris was a fantastic experience that enabled me to grow and expand my horizons. I am grateful for WRAP and the INSEAD-Wharton partnership for this wonderful summer experience. I would also like to thank INSEAD’s Hoffmann Institute, Kim Wilkinson, and INSEAD Professor Kaisa Snellman for their continued support.
